Ryhurst wins first PFI in north of England

November 2007

After months of complex negotiations, Ryhurst has successfully been selected as PFI partner on its first ever project in the north of England and will partner Langbaurgh PCT in Teeside to develop a new £35m integrated hospital and health centre in Redcar, North Yorkshire.

The contract has been negotiated jointly with Sir Robert McAlpine who will provide the major contractor services. The new facility, which will serve 100,000 people across south east Teeside, will replace both the outdated Stead Memorial Hospital and the Redcar Health Centre which was built in the 1970s.

The new hospital and health centre will accommodate services provided by the existing facilities including a 31-bed ward for patients requiring respite care, palliative care, chronic disease management, post operative care and rehabilitation. Other services to be relocated to the new facility are an outpatient department, a minor injuries unit, an X-Ray department, a physiotherapy and hydrotherapy department, a Day Facility and four GP Practices.

Work is now in progress to sign contracts by early next year.
