Ryhurst successfully delivered the RIBA and HAPPI-Award winning Hazelhurst Court Extra Care development in Lewisham for Phoenix Community Housing. The development comprises 60 new extra care apartments suitable for people aged 60 and above, divided into 6 one-bedroom accessible flats, 2 two-bedroom flats, and a further 52 one-bedroom flats.
Hazelhurst Court is situated in a prominent area of Beckenham, with strong train links to London via the Overground Line with Beckenham Hill station a short walk away.
Ryhurst secured this £12.7 million scheme in a growing sub-market of the housing sector - Extra Care housing. Other recent Rydon Extra Care projects include The Orangery in Sidley, East Sussex, for AmicusHorizon.
100% of the apartments at Hazelhurst Court will be available for social rent, designed and built to meet the varying needs of residents. The homes will be available for individuals and couples looking to live independently and who may require further help and assistance when they require it, with additional communal facilities open to both Extra Care residents and the local area, such as a fully catered canteen.
The project is being built within the underused grounds of an existing sheltered housing facility and Ryhurst had the opportunity to develop a project which will provide several communal areas; including a lounge, kitchen and café/restaurant facilities as well as a hobby room, which will also serve as a therapy and treatment suite. These options have been considered and included to bestow independent living yet implement fully flexible care when required.
The main facility will also be subject to a range of external landscaping, a reconfigured access road and on-site resident parking, providing better use of the current space. Accessible courtyards will be designed with two contrasting characters, and a glazed lightweight garden room will link both the spaces.
Our Resident Liaison team will also be on site throughout the build, offering support to residents within the existing grounds of Hazelhurst Court and the immediate local area, allowing residents to communicate with a knowledgeable and honest voice via consultations and coffee mornings with our Resident Liaison Officers.
